This Management Bulletin (MB) reminds Child Nutrition Program sponsors about the Child Nutrition (CN) Labeling Program requirements.

Recently, the U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has received an increase in requests for CN labels for bakery and fruit/vegetable products. Please be aware that the CN Labeling Program for food-based menu planning is limited to the following items:

Manufacturers are not allowed to place a CN label on any of their products unless it is authorized by the USDA. In addition, manufacturers must have quality control procedures and inspection oversight that meet the FNS requirements.

For more information on the USDA CN Labeling Program, please visit the USDA CN Labeling Web page at http://www.fns.usda.gov/cnd/cnlabeling/background.htm.

If you have any questions regarding this MB, please contact Stephanie Enright, Child Nutrition Consultant, School Nutrition Programs Unit, by phone at 916-323-0122 or by e-mail at senright@cde.ca.gov.
