This Management Bulletin (MB) announces the release of Child Nutrition Database 15 (CN 15) and provides guidance to School Nutrition Program (SNP) sponsors.

Background

The CN 15 is an integral part of the nutrient analysis software programs approved by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for use with the Nutrient Standard Menu Planning option (NSMP) and conducting nutrient analyses to meet the School Meal Initiative requirements. The CN 15 collects and summarizes data on the following fifteen nutrients: calories, total fat, saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrate, dietary fiber, protein, vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, iron, ash, and moisture.

The CN 15 is now available at the following Healthy Meals Resource System Web page: http://healthymeals.nal.usda.gov/cndatabase.html. Software companies with USDA-approved computer programs for NSMP are required to update their customers using CN 15.

Guidance

The USDA expects software companies with USDA-approved computer programs to immediately incorporate CN 15 into their products and to make the new version available to current users. Any SNP sponsors who did not receive an update with the current CN Database should contact their software company. All new and updated nutrient information will be included with the next annual springtime release of the CN Database.
