This Management Bulletin (MB) announces the release of Child Nutrition Database 17 (CN 17) and provides guidance to School Nutrition Program (SNP) sponsors. 

Background

The CN 17 is an integral part of the nutrient analysis software approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for use in the SNPs.

Guidance

The USDA expects software companies with USDA-approved computer programs to incorporate CN 17 into their products and to make the new version available to current users no later than November 8, 2013. Any SNP sponsors who do not receive an update should contact their software company. All new and updated nutrient information will be included with the next annual springtime release of the Child Nutrition (CN) Database.

Please note that the following programs have been removed from the list of USDA-approved software:

The CN 17 is now available on the Healthy Meals Resource System Web page at http://healthymeals.nal.usda.gov/cndatabase.html. Software companies with USDA-approved computer programs are required to update their software using CN 17.
