A Quick Reference of NCLB Requirements for Parental Notifications

This list of notifications is not intended to be exhaustive, but it provides a quick reference of some of the major parental notifications required by NCLB.

Section 111(b)(3)(C)(xii) - Assessments must provide for individual student interpretive, descriptive, and diagnostic assessment results for teachers, principals, and parents, with parent notice "in an understandable and uniform format."*

Section 1111(h)(1)(B) - Annual state report card.

Section 1111(h)(2)(E) - Annual local educational agency report card.

Section 1111(h)(6) - Notice of parents' right to know teacher qualifications and whether or not child is taught for more than 4 weeks by a teacher who is not highly qualified. Format is addressed in 1111(h)(6)(C).

Section 1112(c)(1)(N) - Local Educational Agency (LEA) Plan must provide assurances that assessment results are provided to teachers and parents as soon as possible.

Section 1112(g)(1) - Notice to parents of Limited English Proficient (LEP) students regarding program being provided. There are two separate notices, one in subsection (A) and one in subsection (b). Format is addressed in 1112(g)(2).

Section 1114(b)(2)(B)(iv) - Comprehensive plan required is schools wish to operate a Schoolwide program.

Section 1116(b)(6) - Notice to parents regarding the identification of a school for Program Improvement (PI).

Section 1116(b)(8) - LEA must publish and disseminate information to parents and others regarding corrective action taken at a PI school.

Section 1116(c)(6) - State provides notice to parents that an LEA has been identified for PI.

Section 1116(c)(10)(e) - State Education Agency (SEA) must publish and disseminate to parents and others information on corrective actions taken by SEA. No mention of format or language in this instance.

Section 1116(e)(2)(A) - Notice to parents of availability of supplemental educational services at schools in second year of PI.
