Unit V and VI - Generalized Defensive Driving
This presentation will assist the instructor in developing a better understanding of the basic components of defensive driving and advanced defensive driving techniques as identified in Unit 5 and 6 of the Instructor Classroom Manual. We will also cover topics such as: Driver Condition, Visual Lead, Identify, Predict, Decide, and Execute (IPDE), Safety Circle, Basics of Turning Movements, Blind Areas, Rail Grade Crossing, Advance weather Conditions, Winter Driving, Unexpected Hazards, and Aggressive Driving Scenarios. At the conclusion of the presentation, instructors will have a clear understanding of the most current curriculum, techniques, visual aids, and methods of presenting for conducting a more effective defensive driving presentation.
Unit IV - Dual Air Brake System
This presentation will be divided into two sections. part One will focus on the Brake Board and provide a comprehensive overview of all the components of the dual air brake system. Part Two will provide some simple instructional tips and ideas on how to teach the Dual Air system in an easily understandable way to your drivers.
Unit VII: Loading and Unloading
This presentation will revisit Unit 7 of the Instructor's Manual for California's bus Driver's Training Course in its entirety. The purpose will be to provide a comprehensive opportunity to combine the basic curriculum for Passenger Loading and Unloading with current material, statute, and regulation. This program will clarify the application process and provide a conceptual view into the multitude of situations encountered every day. Take advantage of this opportunity to shake loose the cobwebs and put some spark back into your classroom.
Unit IX - Passenger Management
This class will develop the State Certified Instructors ability to connect with driving staff members and improve effectiveness in pupil management. The course will focus on four main concepts: driver self evaluation, developing a driver's competency towards cooperative communication with passengers, creating positive and healthy behavioral environments, and responding to a redirecting inappropriate behaviors. This course will better prepare the State Certified Instructor to teach passenger management, conduct in-services, conduct driver evaluations, and provide solutions to staff members who struggle dealing with problem behaviors.
Unit IV - Vehicle Components/Automatic Transmission
This presentation will help develop a more effective understanding of the basic components that make a vehicle operate as identified in Unit 4 of the Classroom Manual. We like to refer to such components as the Power Train.
This presentation will cover: the four stroke gasoline engine parts and function, four stroke diesel engine, lubricating system, cooling system, clutch, the automatic transmission features, parts, and function, and the basic knowledge and skill required to find the exact shifting position for each gear on an automatic transmission, and how to properly fill out a shifting chart.
