Dear Education Leaders:
As I stated in my recent State of Education address, we must eliminate current inequities and give all students a chance at a more hopeful future than the present. Closing the achievement gap is central to that goal. To do so, high schools need to offer programs that engage and motivate students—and the “multiple pathways” approach is a promising strategy that deserves our attention.
I have enclosed a copy of the ConnectEd report which details the multiple pathways approach and provides evidence of its effectiveness. I encourage you to review this report and its policy recommendations and join me and others in further discussion on how multiple pathways can help ensure that more students are prepared for a brighter future. Feel free to share this paper with your colleagues and constituents.
Sincerely,
JACK O’CONNELL
