Dear County and District Superintendents and Charter School Administrators:
I would like to inform you of a unique scholarship opportunity. The Comcast Foundation is currently accepting student nominations from high school principals through December 14, 2007, for its 2008 Comcast Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program. Designed to develop future leaders, the program provides $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors based on their leadership skills, academic achievement, and community service activities. Once received, these scholarships can be applied to accredited, non-profit colleges, universities, or vocational/ technical schools in the United States.
Since its inception in 2000, the Comcast Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program has awarded more than $7.5 million scholarships to high school seniors. In 2007 alone, the program granted more than $1.7 million, with 180 California students recognized out of a total of 1,700 high school students nationwide. To be eligible for nomination by his or her principal, a student must be a full-time high school senior (with a grade point average of at least 2.8) with leadership abilities demonstrated through his or her school activities or work experience, and through strong community service involvement. Although the nominating high school must be located in a Comcast community service area, a subscription to their service is not required to be eligible to participate in the program.
The Comcast Foundation hopes to recognize more student leaders in California this year through its Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program. Nomination packets have already been sent to all of the high schools in Comcast’s northern California communities. Nomination forms can also be obtained by sending a high school’s name and address by e-mail to comcast@spaprog.com. If you would like more information about the Comcast Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program, including a list of eligible communities, please visit the Comcast Scholarships Web page at http://www.comcast.com/corporate/about/inthecommunity/scholarships/scholarships.html (Outside Source).
If you have any questions regarding this subject, please contact Carol Smith, Policy Advisor, Office of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, at 916-319-0577 or by e-mail at csmith@cde.ca.gov.
Sincerely,
JACK O’CONNELL
