Dear County and District Superintendents, Charter School Administrators, and High School and Middle School Principals:

2012 MYVOTE CALIFORNIA STUDENT MOCK ELECTION

FREE Materials for Schools that register by September 21!

It's the start of an exciting fall presidential election season, and high schools and middle schools across the state soon will be gearing up for the MyVote California Student Mock Election, which takes place on Tuesday, October 30.

Please take a moment to register your school today, on the Student Mock Election page at http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/studentmockelection.htm.

Working with the California Campaign for the Civic Mission of Schools and the Constitutional Rights Foundation in coordination with the National Student/Parent Mock Election, the MyVote California Student Mock Election helps young people discover the power their vote has in our democracy.

Schools that register by September 21 will receive printed ballots, posters, stickers and other materials by mail. Those that register later will print materials from the Student Mock Election website. There, you will also find a collection of standards-based lesson plans and activities designed to stir your students’ interest in voting.

With your involvement, students will discover that democracy is a living, breathing thing that only flourishes when we all take part. Together, we can inspire a generation of informed voters who eagerly await each opportunity to exercise their precious constitutional right.

If you have questions or need further information, please contact the Student Mock Election Team by phone at 916-651-3070 or by e-mail at MyVote@sos.ca.gov.

Sincerely,

Tom Torlakson
State Superintendent of Public Instruction
