Dear County and District Superintendents and Charter School Administrators:

MICROSOFT'S SHAPE THE FUTURE INITIATIVE FOR CALIFORNIA

We are forwarding to you a letter from Microsoft indicating that eligible California schools may participate in Microsoft’s Shape the Future Initiative for California.

Schools taking advantage of this program may receive a reduced price for the Windows® 8 Pro operating system as part of purchases from Qualified Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) by providing schools access to Microsoft’s National Academic SKU.

The enclosed letter from Microsoft provides more details about how California schools can take advantage of this program if they choose to do so. Schools must provide the enclosed letter to an OEM that has entered into a direct OEM licensing relationship with Microsoft for Microsoft software (known as a Qualified OEM).

Transactions under Microsoft’s Shape the Future Initiative for California will be between an eligible school and its chosen Qualified OEM. Nothing in this notice or the enclosed letter makes the California Department of Education a party to or in any way liable for such licensing transactions.

While the Initiative is not sponsored or endorsed by me or the California Department of Education, your school may find that the Initiative provides value to your schools.

For more information about the Shape the Future Initiative for California, please e-mail oemedsku@microsoft.com.
