State Schools Chief O'Connell Announces Appointment of
School Administrator to Intersegmental Coordinating Committee
SACRAMENTO — State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell announced today the appointment of Thomas McCoy, Oxnard high school principal, to the Intersegmental Coordinating Committee.
McCoy is the principal of Hueneme High School in Oxnard and education lecturer at California State University, Channel Islands. Previously he worked as assistant principal at Hueneme High School and was Resource Advisor at Montgomery High School in Chula Vista. McCoy has also taught courses in Education, Economics, Peer Counseling, Social Science, Physical Education, and World Civilizations.
"Tom brings a great deal of professional and community experience to the Commission," O'Connell said. "As an educator and school administrator, he knows first hand the need for fostering collaboration within all of California's educational community. Tom has a deep commitment to the success of our students and to ensuring cooperation within our educational community."
McCoy earned a Doctor of Education and a Bachelor of Arts in History at the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Master of Education in Counseling at the University of San Diego.
McCoy is a former member of the Port Hueneme Chamber of Commerce Education Committee. He is currently a member of the California State University, Channel Islands Master of Education Curriculum Development Committee and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Accreditation Team at Belmont High School.
Based in Sacramento, the Commission addresses issues that include recommending standards for high school graduation in English and Mathematics, the transition from high school to college, preparation of students for college, teacher recruitment and professional development, collaborative applications of information technology, and community college transfer.
