Schools Chief Jack O'Connell Honors Six
CAlifornia Teachers for Math and Science Awards

SACRAMENTO — State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell will host a luncheon today to honor six outstanding California teachers, who have been selected by a national panel to be state finalists in the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. The exclusive corporate sponsor of the award luncheon is ChevronTexaco Corporation. The awards, established by the White House and administered by the National Science Foundation, are considered the nation's highest honor for math and science teachers in kindergarten through grade twelve.
The 2003 nominees, Ana England, a Presidential Award finalist in mathematics, and Janet English, the finalist for this Award in science, will be honored along with the 2004 nominees. The 2004 nominees are: Gladys Hancock and Valerie Rose River, who are the math finalists, and Katrina Williams and Mary Louise Woolf, who are the science finalists.
