Schools Chief Jack O'Connell Announces Bill to
Improve School Intervention Services Signed by Governor
SACRAMENTO — State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell today announced that a measure he sponsored to improve intervention services for struggling schools has been signed by the Governor.
AB 953 by Assembly member Joe Coto (D-San Jose) will improve intervention services that assist school districts designated as "Program Improvement" by clarifying requirements of the Local Educational Agency Intervention Program. It also will ensure that the use of Federal intervention funds are prioritized based on the academic performance of each district's socioeconomically disadvantaged students.
"It is critically important that we target intervention funds to help students that most need assistance to reach their full potential," O'Connell said. "This measure will allow us to strategically use these funds to help make changes at our most challenging schools."
