State Schools Chief Jack O'Connell Endorses Agreement
Enable CSU to Offer Doctoral Degrees in Education

SACRAMENTO — State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell today endorsed the agreement between the California State University (CSU) and the University of California (UC) to enable the CSU to issue doctoral degrees in education.

"There is a critical need for educators with integrated, high level management skills that the training through these degrees would meet," O'Connell said. "Both K-12 schools and our community colleges have extensive need of administrators and executives who are skilled in synthesizing complex data, business and, especially, academic priorities to advance the needs of our students, campuses and communities. I am especially pleased that the CSU and UC have reached this agreement collaboratively, while framing it within the context of the master plan for education. The agreement should benefit students in both K-12 and postsecondary education throughout California."
