SACRAMENTO—State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson today congratulated Ilene W. Straus, Sue Burr, and Nicolasa Sandoval on their appointments to the California State Board of Education by Governor Jerry Brown:

"I'm extremely pleased that California will continue to be guided by these outstanding policymakers," Torlakson said. "Board member Straus has shown tremendous leadership. I've also had the pleasure of working with both Sue Burr and Nicolasa Sandoval. Both will bring a wealth of experience to this new role. I'm looking forward to working closely with all three. I'm confident they will be outstanding partners as we continue our progress toward providing all California children with a world-class education."
