State Schools Chief Tom Torlakson to Speak
at Sikh Awareness and Appreciation Event
State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson will speak in Selma Saturday morning at an event hosted by the Sikh Council of Central California [http://sikhcouncilcentralca.com/index.php]
to raise awareness and understanding of the Sikh culture, as well as anti-discrimination and anti-bullying efforts in schools across the state.
Torlakson will join a host of key figures within the Sikh community as well as local officials, including: Pashaura Singh Dhillon, Sikh Council of Central California; Nirvair Singh, Sikh Coalition, Dr. Kathryn Catania, Assistant Superintendent, Curriculum & Instruction, Fresno County Office of Education; Mark G. Sutton, Selma School District; Eric Cedarquist, Fowler School District; Simran Kaur, Sikh Coalition; Mark Ruiz, Assistant Superintendent, Kerman School District; Mark Fowler, Principal, Caruthers High School; Dr. Kevin Torosian, Central Unified School District; Henry T. Perea, Assemblymember, District 31; Jim Costa, Congressman, District 20; Margaret Mims, Sheriff, Fresno County.
