State Schools Chief Tom Torlakson to Address Childhood Obesity Conference in Long Beach
State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson will speak Wednesday in Long Beach at the 7th Biennial Childhood Obesity Conference. The event is cosponsored by the California Department of Education, California Department of Public Health, California Endowment, Kaiser Permanente, and the Center for Weight and Health at the University of California, Berkeley.
Torlakson will speak about the epidemic of childhood obesity, the role of schools in providing nutritious meals and physical activity, and how his Team California for Health Kids initiative promotes health and wellness, which can help children achieve academically.
Nearly 2,000 attendees from across the country are expected to attend this year’s conference, which runs June 18-20. The Conference will showcase the latest research, evidence-based best practices, and policy/environmental change strategies.
