** SB 233. This reauthorization bill moved the California Standards Test in history-social science from grade 9 to grade 8, eliminated the Golden State Examinations (GSE), created the grade 8-9 general mathematics California Standards Test, and directed an increasing emphasis of the California Standards Test over the Norm-Referenced Test.
*** NCLB refers to the federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) requirements.
