- Other: For this year, freeze spending. Attendance at workshops and conferences and staff development opportunities have been canceled. No spending on technology equipment, reduced the number of community newsletters, and hiring freeze. For next year, the school board is considering two scenarios: Scenario 1: Institute $900,000 in non-personnel cuts — items such as staff development, technology equipment, coaching stipends, and deferred maintenance. Make an addition $3.5 million in personnel cuts including reductions in middle and elementary vice principals, district nurse, reading specialists, counselors, clerical staff, and management positions. With this reduction, the school district would lose many of the intervention programs put in place for at-risk students and English Language Learners. Scenario 2: Cut $900,000 in nonpersonnel items, along with another $1.5 million from personnel. Use reserves of up to $2 million for one year with the understanding that support from the state would have to be restored or that the District would have to pass a parcel tax. Deeper cuts would have to occur for 2009-10 otherwise.
