  • Programs: 6.5 Percent Reductions,
  • Other: Based on the governor's proposal, San Joaquin County Office of Education (SJCOE) will suffer revenue reductions of about $2 million.  Most of its programs will be hit with a 6.5 percent reduction from current year funding levels. SJCOE operates more than 500 separate program budgets and each is being reviewed to determine the extent of staffing changes or other program cuts that will be required. Special education funds are being reduced for San Joaquin County Schools SELPA by $1.7 million. The program is reducing expenses to the extent possible, but because of state and federal mandates and maintenance of effort requirements, special education expenditures cannot be reduced to the extent possible in other programs.  This creates an additional financial strain on both SJCOE and the districts that serves the programs. For the school districts in San Joaquin County, the governor's proposal will reduce revenues for general education by more than $17 million from current year levels, and by more than $50 million below statutory entitlements for next year.
