Mathematics and Reading Professional Development SB 472
Please note: The Mathematics and Reading Professional Development Program (SB 472) is part of the full fiscal flexibility outlined in Senate Bill 4 of the 2009-10 Third Extraordinary Session (SBX3 4) (Chapter 12, Statutes of 2009). LEAs may utilize all of their Mathematics and Reading Professional Development Program funds to provide services for the program or they may use all or part of their funds for other educational purposes and/or other categorical programs. LEAs will be deemed to be in compliance with program and funding requirements contained in statutory, regulatory, and provisional language.

SB 472 provides incentive funding for professional development for kindergarten through grade twelve teachers. Beginning January 1, 2007, all providers and their training curriculum for the initial 40 hours of SB 472 intensive professional development must be approved by the State Board of Education (SBE) prior to conducting training. Providers that were previously approved to conduct AB 466 training must be reapproved by California Department of Education (CDE) staff before conducting SB 472 training. CDE will not reimburse local educational agencies (LEAs) for 40-hour SB 472 training providers who are not approved for the specific instructional materials the LEA is claiming.
