Reading Professional Development Modules

These modules were developed with federal funds as a part of the Reading First national initiative aimed at improving reading in kindergarten through grade three classrooms.

The Reading Professional Development Training Modules provide high-quality and research-based teaching strategies designed to improve students' reading skills in grades kindergarten through three (K-3). The modules guide educators to incorporate key literacy skills into daily classroom practice by actively engaging educators in lesson study and modeling. These modules continue to be used in statewide reading workshops for teachers, administrators, and reading coaches. They cover a variety of topics including: the role of academic language in students' school success, student engagement, powerful pre-teaching characteristics, high-quality vocabulary instruction, morphology, prewriting, sounds and spellings, providing universal access and text structure.
