PAR Introduction

Overview and information on the Peer Assistance and Review (PAR) Program.

This program is included in the Tier III Categories for the flexible funding provisions included in SBX3 4. Please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for this program by accessing the California Department of Education's Education Budget Web page.

Assembly Bill 1X (Chapter 4, Statutes of 1999 and Education Code Section 44505) established the California Peer Assistance and Review (PAR) Program for teachers. This program was developed to assist teachers whose bi-annual personnel reviews were not satisfactory. Assistance and support are provided by exemplary teachers and includes subject matter knowledge, teaching strategies, or both.

Funding, Apportionments, and Letters by Year
Only districts that certified a PAR program before July 1, 2001, are eligible to receive PAR funding. Direct-funded charter schools receive PAR in their block grant.
