Field Test Flash #1
Smarter Balanced Field Test Flash #1 for February 7, 2014
New from the CDE, Field Test Flash is designed to deliver up-to-the-minute information about the upcoming Smarter Balanced Field Test. To join the Field Test Flash listserv directly, please send a blank e-mail to CAASPP@mlist.cde.ca.gov.
- The Smarter Balanced Training Tests are now available on the CDE Smarter Balanced Assessment System Web page under “Practice Tests, Training Tests, and Sample Items”. The Training Tests allow teachers and students to experience most of the features, the functionality, and the item types in the Smarter Balanced assessments in advance of the Field Test. Unlike the Practice Tests, they are not designed to provide a grade-specific testing experience; instead, their purpose is to help students understand the test format and how they will interact with the technology.
- The California Online Field Test Administration Manual for the Smarter Balanced Field Test is posted on the Smarter Balanced CA Field Test Portal Resources and Documentation Web page . The manual contains instructions on test administration procedures specifically for California local educational agency (LEA) testing coordinators, test site coordinators, and test administrators.
- The CDE must submit an initial student-level registration data file with all students participating in the Field Test to the Test Information Distribution Engine (TIDE) system. By February 18, LEAs must ensure that demographic data for all currently enrolled students in grades three through eleven are up-to-date and accurate in the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS). More information is available in the February 5 letter from the CDE to CALPADS LEA administrators and LEA California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) coordinators.
