SBE Approves CCSS Agenda Items
Adoption of Modifications to the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics with California Additions
The State Board of Education (SBE) voted Wednesday to modify the California Additions to the adopted Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for Mathematics based on the recommendations of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction (SSPI)Tom Torlakson. The SSPI’s recommendations are presented in the Recommended Modifications to the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics with California Additions and Model Courses for Higher Mathematics (DOC). The modifications were authorized by Senate Bill 1200 (Statutes of 2012) and developed with the help of the Mathematics Curriculum Framework and Evaluation Criteria Committee and comments from two public hearings held in January 2013.
Career Technical Education Model Curriculum Standards 2013
Updates to California’s career technical education (CTE) standards—designed to reflect the changing face of technology and set higher academic goals—received approval from the SBE Wednesday. These updated standards are aligned to the CCSS. 2014 Mathematics Primary Adoption of Instructional Materials: Approval of Evaluation Criteria; Approval of Timeline; Approval of the Application for Instructional Materials Reviewers and Content Review Experts
The SBE has approved, with amendments, components necessary to proceed with the 2014 Mathematics Primary Adoption of Instructional Materials. More information about the 2014 Mathematics Primary Adoption may be accessed on the CDE Mathematics Instructional Materials Web page.
Two New CCSS Professional Learning Modules Now Available from the CDE
The CDE is pleased to announce the release of two new professional learning modules (PLMs). The English Language Arts: Informational Text—Reading PLM was developed in collaboration with the Ventura County Office of Education, and the Mathematics: Kindergarten through Grade Twelve Standards for Mathematical Practice PLM was developed in collaboration with the California Math Project. Both are available online on the Brokers of Expertise California Common Core State Standards PLM Web page . The modules are available in two formats: online independent use and on-site blended group facilitation.
