California Becomes Sixth State to Adopt the NGSS
At the September 4, 2013 State Board of Education (SBE) meeting, SBE members voted unanimously to adopt the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) for California Public Schools, Kindergarten through Grade Twelve as the new Science Content Standards for California. Included in the adoption are the NGSS Appendices A through M. At the November 6–7, 2013 SBE meeting, members will consider adopting the proposed middle grades 6–8 learning progression. This winter, State Superintendent of Public Instruction (SSPI) Tom Torlakson will convene a team to design the NGSS for California Implementation Plan.
