Public Review and Feedback on the English Language Development Standards
Assembly Bill 124 requires the State Superintendent of Public Instruction (SSPI) in consultation with the State Board of Education (SBE) to update, revise, and align the state’s current English Language Development standards by grade level to the state’s English Language Arts standards by November 2012. In order to accomplish this important work, public review and feedback is essential. The California Department of Education (CDE) will hold public hearings in Sacramento on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, and in Los Angeles on Thursday, July 26, 2012. In addition, written comments relevant to the proposed standards may be submitted to the CDE until Monday, August 6, 2012. Additional information can be found on the CDE English Language Development Standards Web page.
Submit an Application to Serve on the English Language Arts/English Language Development CFCC
The CDE and SBE are recruiting members for the English Language Arts/English Language Development Curriculum Framework and Evaluation Criteria Committee (ELA/ELD CFCC) to assist in the revision of the English Language Arts/English Language Development Framework. The framework will be revised to align with the CCSS for English language arts and incorporate new English language development standards. The ELA/ELD CFCC will include between 9 and 20 members who will be selected to ensure balanced representation of regions, English language arts and English language development content knowledge, and grade-level experience. The committee will meet up to six times, with meetings scheduled from February through July 2013. More details about the responsibilities of serving as an ELA/ELD CFCC member and the application are available on the CDE Curriculum Frameworks Web page. The deadline for submission of the application is August 16, 2012.
