New English Language Development Resources
New CCSS Professional Learning Module Available from the CDE
The California Department of Education (CDE) is pleased to announce that a new professional learning module (PLM), Getting Started with English Language Development Standards is now available online at the Brokers of Expertise California Common Core State Standards (CCSS) PLM Web page . This module is part of the CCSS for California Educators series and was developed by the California Department of Education in collaboration with WestEd. This is the first of two modules that focus on the new English Language Development Standards and it is highly recommended that all educators view it before viewing the second ELD module, which will be available in the next few weeks. The module is available in two formats: online independent use and on-site blended group facilitation.

New Videos from the Teaching Channel and Understanding Language
The Teaching Channel Video Series Playlist: English Language Learners was produced in conjunction with Stanford University’s Understanding Language initiative and examines the key shifts found in the CCSS. The videos highlight opportunities to grow students’ disciplinary knowledge and English language skills in heterogeneous classrooms.
