Career Opportunities

The California Department of Education (CDE) oversees the nation's most diverse and dynamic public school system, responsible for the education of more than seven million children and young adults in more than 9,000 schools.

The CDE and the State Superintendent of Public Instruction are responsible for the oversight of programs and for promoting continuous improvement in state-funded preschool through adult education. CDE is an equal opportunity employer whose mission is to provide leadership, assistance, oversight, and resources so that every Californian has access to an education that meets world-class standards. The CDE is committed to working in partnership with local schools to improve student achievement.

Many who have joined CDE’s workforce have made it their lifetime career. Few employers offer such a broad range of opportunities for education specialists to work in a congenial environment with professionals dedicated to improving the education of all children. Our education professionals put their expertise to work for the benefit of California students in every area of education, from preschool to special education, career technical education to college prep, reading instruction to nutrition. Education professionals help to determine how our most important resource, our children, are served while in the formative care of our public schools. Being an education professional provides an outstanding opportunity for someone who chooses to have an impact on California's education system.
