Titles Used in the Core Information Structure

The core information structure of the CDE Internet Web site is comprised of the CDE Home page, topic pages, sub-topic pages, sub-sub-topic pages, and their descriptions.

Titles for any of the index pages that are part of the core information structure must use the ampersand (&) instead of the word "and".

When the ampersand is used and there are three or more items, use of the serial comma (Outside Source) is required.

Text and Styles

Do not use underlined text in any Web page, Web application, or Web document. The use of underlined text is reserved for active hyperlinks only.

The only exception is that underlines may be used to indicate the text of laws or regulations that are being added, modified, or deleted as prescribed by the California Office of Administrative Law.

Color

Note:

Colors were updated to include color changes to the CDE Intranet and Internet Web sites that are now more accessible due to greater contrast difference and color difference. All new colors meet the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) Level 2 criteria and most meet the Level 3 criteria.

Web Documents (Section 2 All Web Documents Must)   10. Adhere to the following concerning the opening view of the document:
  1. For all documents, the view size should be set to 100%.
  2. For all documents, the document should be saved so that the cursor, selection, and/or starting view is the very beginning of the document.
  3. Excel documents should be set to open with the first (leftmost) workbook tab pre-selected.
  4. Excel documents should be set so that the selected cell within each tab is either the upper-leftmost of the spreadsheet, or the first user-fillable cell within the spreadsheet.
  5. Word documents should be set to open in Print View.
  6. PDF documents that contain bookmarks (per 7c above or otherwise), should be set to open with the bookmarks panel visible.

Password Requirements

Passwords whether created by application developers, administrators, or users must meet or be required through validation to meet all of the following parameters. Passwords must:

  • Be at least eight characters in length.
  • Contain at least one uppercase letter.
  • Contain at least one lowercase letter.
  • Contain at least one of the following non-alphanumeric characters:
    • !
    • @
    • #
    • $
    • ^
    • &
    • *
    • -
    • =
    • _
    • +
    • ?
  • Not be the same as the logon or user name.

 

Passwords whether created by application developers, administrators, or users must meet or be required through validation to meet all of the following parameters. Passwords must:

    • Uppercase letters (A though Z)
    • Lowercase letters (a through z)
    • Numbers (0 through 9)
    • Special characters (!, @, #, $, ^, &, *, -, =, _, +, ?)

System/Application Names

System/application names should describe the purpose of the system. They should not include reference to previous systems or terms related to the development of the system. For example, do not use terms in system titles, such as:

  • Change
  • Update
  • Project
  • Redevelopment
  • Redesign, or
  • Replacement
