RE:  Withdrawing American Indian Education Centers from Maximum Flexibility

The American Indian Education Oversight Committee (AIEOC) met on July 18, 2012, and unanimously voted that I send you this advisory regarding withdrawal of the American Indian Education Centers from maximum flexibility.

Background:  The American Indian Education Centers services to American Indian students were be operated within the accountability standards outlined in authorizing legislation and the Education Code. To this end the American Indian Education Oversight Committee supports the removal of American Indian Program (AIEC Centers) from the maximum flexibility legislation in order to be in compliance with the originating legislation.

Recommendation: The AIEOC recommends that the State Superintendent of Public Instruction advocate for the removal of the American Education Centers from maximum flexibility.
