Conference Overview and Agenda

California Department of Education
2008 California Title I Conference
Conference Overview and Agenda

The Title I Conference has the reputation as a premier professional development activity for individuals, agencies, and groups either responsible for or working in Title I schools.

The conference is designed to help educators and parents gather knowledge, skills, and resources to help low-performing students achieve. It provides professional development activities for adults who work with students at risk of not achieving in a standards-based educational system. It also provides an opportunity for parents and other interested persons to gain knowledge and skills regarding the implementation of the Title I Program in their communities so they become equal partners in the educational progress of educationally disadvantaged students.

The tentative schedule has five workshop sessions over two days. The sessions are scheduled for 90 minutes except for session 5, which is scheduled for 75 minutes. The conference program also includes a pre-conference opportunity for educators and parents to acquire greater knowledge regarding the implementation of the Title I Parent and Community Involvement Program.

Conference presentations feature California educators from award winning schools, California Department of Education staff, and other exceptional speakers and researchers who will cover the major aspects of the Title I Program. These presenters will share a range of successful research-based programs and strategies to assist administrators, teachers, and the school community to achieve academic success for their students. State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell, will participate as a keynote speaker along with Roberto Salinas, Executive Director of the P-16 Council.

Other activities planned for the conference include school visitations and a special networking session that features award-winning schools. These schools will participate in an exchange of valuable information and may serve as models for other schools to replicate or design programs for students to achieve academically.
