Summary of Template Changes 2005-06

Summary of changes in the School Accountability Report Card (SARC) template from 2004-05 to 2005-06.

Approved by the State Board of Education in July 2006

Throughout the Template
  • All references to years have been modified to reflect the reporting of newer data. For example, data previously collected and reported from 2004-05 will be replaced by data collected and reported from 2005-06.

  • The reporting elements have been reordered.

  • Some reporting elements have been retitled.

  • Some reporting elements have been reduced in scope so that they are more accurately aligned with state or federal requirements.

  • Some related reporting elements have been combined into a single reporting element.

  • Some reporting elements have been redesigned to improve their readability and usefulness.

  • The introductory descriptions for all the reporting elements have been shortened and rewritten.
Section I. About This School

Table: Student Enrollment by Group

Displays percent of total enrollment by group and no longer includes number of students in each group; adds Socioeconomically Disadvantaged, English Learners, and Students with Disabilities groups; formerly titled Student Enrollment – Racial and Ethnic Subgroups

Table: Average Class Size and Class Size Distribution (Secondary)

Formerly titled Average Teaching Load and Teaching Load Distribution

Section II. School Climate

Table: School Discipline Practices

Formerly titled School Programs and Practices That Promote a Positive Learning Environment

Table: Suspensions and Expulsions

Limits display to rate of suspensions and expulsions; no longer includes number of suspensions and expulsions

Section III. School Facilities

No significant changes

Section IV. Teachers

Table: Teacher Credentials

Reduces to one entry the various circumstances under which teachers may be employed to teach while holding less than a full credential; as an alternative way to meet the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) requirement for reporting teacher qualifications, adds district-level comparison for the most recent year and deletes Teacher Education Level table

Table: Teacher Misassignments and Vacant Teacher Positions

Merges two tables into one table

Table: Core Academic Classes Taught by No Child Left Behind Compliant Teachers

Adds column for reporting percent of classes in core academic subjects taught by non-NCLB compliant teachers

Section V. Support Staff

Table: Academic Counselors and Other Support Staff

Merges two tables into one table; adds Library Media Services Staff (paraprofessional) to the list of support staff included in the table

Section VI. Curriculum and Instructional Materials

Table: Quality, Currency, and Availability of Textbooks and Instructional Materials

Merges two tables into one table; pursuant to Senate Bill (SB) 687 (Chapter 358, Statutes of 2005), adds column for reporting percent of pupils who lack their own assigned textbooks and instructional materials by core curriculum area

Table: Expenditures Per Pupil and School Site Teacher Salaries

New table added pursuant to SB 687; replaces District Expenditures table

Section VIII. Student Performance

Table: CST Results by Student Group – Most Recent Year

Merges into one table and reformats the tables formerly titled CST – Racial and Ethnic Subgroups and CST – Other Subgroups

Table: NRT Results by Student Group – Most Recent Year

Merges into one table and reformats the tables formerly titled NRT – Racial and Ethnic Subgroups and NRT – Other Subgroups

Table: California Physical Fitness Test Results

Limits display to school-level data; no longer includes district-level comparisons, state-level comparisons, and breakdown by gender; formerly titled California Physical Fitness Test

Section IX. Accountability

Table: API Ranks – Three Year Comparison

Limits display to a school's statewide and similar schools API ranks over three years; formerly titled API – Schoolwide

Table: API Changes by Student Group – Three-Year Comparison

Merges tables formerly titled API – Racial and Ethnic Subgroups and API – Socioeconomically Disadvantaged Subgroup; limits display to actual API changes over three years and most recent API (Growth) score; adds results for English Learners and Students with Disabilities groups for the most recent year only

Table: AYP Overall and by Criteria

Limits display to indication of whether the school and the district made AYP overall and whether the school and the district met each of the AYP criteria; limits display to school-level data and no longer includes district-level comparisons; replaces tables formerly titled AYP All Criteria – Schoolwide and AYP Participation Rates and Proficiency Levels – Schoolwide and Subgroups

Table: Federal Intervention Program

Adds Program Improvement Status at the school and district levels; deletes Year Exited Program Improvement at the school and district levels

Section X. School Completion and Postsecondary Preparation

Table: Dropout Rate and Graduation Rate

Limits display to one-year dropout rate and graduation rate; no longer includes enrollment and number of dropouts

Table: Completion of High School Graduation Requirements

Adds new element based on first graduating class subject to passing the required exit examination

Table: Career Technical Education Programs

Replaces element formerly titled Workforce Preparation Programs; as required by SB 687, narrative must include a list of career technical education programs

Table: Career Technical Education Participation

Replaces element formerly titled Career Technical Education Programs; as required by SB 687, table must contain career technical education program data

Table: Courses for University of California and/or California State University Admission

Merges and simplifies two tables formerly titled Student Enrollment in Courses Required for University of California (UC) and/or California State University (CSU) Admission and Graduates Who Have Completed All Courses Required for UC and/or CSU Admission

Table: Advanced Placement Courses

Limits display to number of Advanced Placement (AP) courses offered by subject and the percent of the school’s students enrolled in AP courses; formerly titled Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate Courses

Table: SAT Reasoning Test

Deletes grade 12 enrollment; adds average writing score for the most recent year only
