Program Improvement LEA Requirements


Under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), local educational agencies (LEAs) are responsible for implementing specific federal and state requirements during each year that they are in Program Improvement (PI) status.

2011-12 Title I, Title II, and/or Title III Status Under ESEA Letters

Under ESEA, LEAs may be identified for improvement under Title I (PI), Title II and/or Title III and are subject to requirements under each accountability system. A September 23, 2011, notice letter was sent to all LEAs notifying them of their Title I, Title II, and/or Title III improvement status and directed them to appropriate California Department of Education Web links for details on the specific accountability requirements. Program Improvement

LEAs identified for PI are subject to requirements under this program. Information detailing these requirements, along with available templates and resources, are available on the PI Years 1, 2, 3, and 3+ Web page.

Program Improvement and Title II

PI LEAs that are also in Title II improvement status should review the Compliance Monitoring, Intervention and Sanctions (CMIS) Web page. LEAs that are subject only to Title II, CMIS should also reference this page.

Program Improvement and Title III

PI LEAs that are also in Title III improvement status should review the Title III Accountability Requirements Web page. LEAs that are subject only to Title III should also reference this page.
