July 25, 2007
Dear District and County Office of Education Superintendents and Categorical Program Monitoring Coordinators:
In preparation for the Categorical Program Monitoring (CPM) process for the 2007-08 school year, we are accepting registration for the CPM Seminars. This year we are offering three overview seminars which are open to all local educational agencies (LEAs). In addition to these overview seminars, Regional Team Leads will conduct regional, county, or district level training sessions for LEAs in the 2007-08 CPM Cycle. Contact your Regional Team Lead to coordinate your local training session customized to meet local need.
The registration form and tentative agenda are enclosed for the three CPM Seminars. Please complete and mail one registration form per attendee by the registration deadline. Hotel rooms are available for those traveling the night prior to the Seminars. Please reference the “California Department of Education” when making reservations. Space for the Seminars is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
By the end of July, the CDE will send the 2007-08 list of CPM LEAs, sites, and specific programs to be monitored. Another notification in August will list specific dates for entrance, exit, CDE CPM planning meetings, and by when each LEA should send documents to the CDE.
LEAs in the 2007-08 CPM Cycle B are required to complete the General Information Form. This information is helpful in establishing communication with appropriate LEA staff and scheduling around important event dates. The General Information Form can be found on the CDE Web site at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/cr/cc/. Submission of the form to the CDE at your earliest convenience would be greatly appreciated.
The CPM Instruments, Ongoing Program Self-Evaluation Tools (OPSETs), and training Modules are available on the CDE Web site at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/cr/cc. These tools serve as helpful resources for you to use on an ongoing basis – before, during, and beyond a CPM cycle. The emphasis is on compliance monitoring as an ongoing responsibility of the LEA, not just a “once-every-four-years” event.
If you have any questions regarding Seminar registration, please contact Lin Van, Staff Services Analyst, Categorical Program Monitoring Office, at (916) 319-0934 or by e-mail at lvan@cde.ca.gov. For questions regarding the CPM process, please contact John Boivin, Interim Administrator, Categorical Program Monitoring Office, at (916) 319-0414, or by e-mail at jboivin@cde.ca.gov.
Sincerely,
Héctor Rico, Interim Director
School and District Accountability Division
