Strategies from Improving and Successful Schools

On the Right Track 5 Symposium School and District Profiles

This was the fifth year that the California Department of Education and WestEd cosponsored the On the Right Track Symposium, which took place September 30-October 2, 2007, in Garden Grove, California. This symposium showcased nine schools and three districts that successfully implemented reforms leading to improved student achievement. All of the presenting schools and districts had been historically low performing but have altered their course and ultimately demonstrated success in improving student achievement. Their presentations at the On the Right Track 5 Symposium described the work that specifically lead to their successful turn-around status.

Best Practices of Successful Schools

This section contains the profiles of successful schools. Each profile provides a brief description of the school, its demographics, and a highlight of the school's best practices. The Visitors’ Guide provides a subset of California Distinguished Schools that responded to a follow-up survey. These schools welcome visitors to their sites to share the strategies and best practices at the heart of their success.
