Frequently asked questions (FAQs) for the Intent to Apply form that is required to be considered for the Gold Ribbon School Award.
What is the deadline for submitting a Gold Ribbon School Intent to Apply?

The Intent to Apply deadline has been extended to Friday, November 4, 2016, at 4 p.m. All responses must be received by that date.

How do I verify that my public middle or high school is eligible?

Go to the CDE 2017 Middle and High School Eligibility Criteria Web page.

What if I received a Gold Ribbon Award in 2015?

If your school received a 2015 Gold Ribbon School Award, then you cannot apply again in 2017.

Is the Intent to Apply form required?

YES. It must be completed and submitted electronically using the link found on the Gold Ribbon Schools Program home page. Schools that do not complete the first step in the Gold Ribbon Schools Award by November 4, 2016, will not be allowed to participate further in the application process.

How do I know if the California Department of Education, Awards Unit received my Intent to Apply?

You have successfully submitted your Intent form when you receive the automated congratulatory notice. No further confirmation or verification will be sent.

Can I get a copy of my completed Intent to Apply?

On the last page of the Intent form, it gives the applicant a prompt to print a copy of this form for your records. When you select the PRINT Response button, a copy of your Intent form will open in a new tab or window. Carefully print the survey from the new tab or window, close the new tab or window, which returns you to the last page of your Intent document. SCROLL down to the bottom of that last page to SUBMIT your form.

What if I submitted my Intent to Apply and now I need to make changes?

Once you have successfully submitted your Intent form, you need to move on to complete your Gold Ribbon Schools Application. IF for any reason, you decide to not apply for an exemplary program, change your Model Program/Practice, or have a change to your contact information, you can make those adjustments in your written application.

How many words should the school’s model program/practice be in length? It says up to 1,000 characters.

The word count is approximately 200 to 250 words.

What if we wrote too much in the Model Program/Practice paragraph?

The system will automatically truncate your response in our database. (The full version is available if we need to access it.)
