Tapp Hancock
Elementary Mathematics Awardee
Tapp Hancock is a second grade teacher at Wayside Elementary School in the Bakersfield City Unified School District, Kern County. She has served as a Bakersfield City School District mentor teacher and a Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment (BTSA) Program provider. She was also an advisory board member for McGraw Hill's Math Textbook Committee from 1999-00 and the Chairperson of the Bakersfield Math Council of Elementary Events for 2005-06.
Tapp was awarded a patent for a mathematics system she developed, which teaches students division and multiplication using their fingers. She is also a member of the San Joaquin Valley Math Project, the California Math Council, and the National Teachers of Mathematics Council.
Tapp's credentials include both a Bachelor's and a Master's Degree in Elementary Education from Converse College, a Specialist Credential in Early Childhood Education from the University of South Carolina, a Pupil Services and Counseling Credential from California Lutheran University, and a CLAD Certificate for Bilingual Education from California State University, Bakersfield.
Ms. Hancock was a United States Fulbright Award Scholar for 2000-01 and was named Outstanding Teacher for Kern County in 2005.
