2007 Secondary Mathematics Awardee Jeff Luscher

Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching awardee for 2007.

Jeffrey Mark Luscher

Secondary Mathematics Awardee

Whether I am teaching Math Standards Mastery, Sheltered Mathematics, or Advanced Placement Calculus, I get great satisfaction when students grasp and apply the relevance of math to their own lives and futures. I try to bring humor and fun into my classroom in order to make math more appealing, break down perceived barriers, and motivate more students to major in math-based careers. My greatest reward has been seeing many of my former students return to the classroom, this time, as math teachers themselves. — Jeff Luscher

Jeff Luscher is a high school mathematics teacher at Santiago High School, in the Corona-Norco Unified School District in Riverside County where he has served as Department Chair since 1995.

A graduate of the University of Southern California (B.A. Mathematics), Luscher earned his teaching credential at the same university. He has developed considerable expertise in programming the computer language C++ and has taken additional coursework focused on teaching Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus, Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) students, and Instructional Strategies for Algebra. He is authorized for Cross-cultural, Language and Academic Development (CLAD) instruction and has a certificate in Kagan Instructional Grouping Strategies.

Luscher was an instructor in the Riverside City College’s Algebra Institute and was trained as a presenter through the CORE-Plus Mathematics Project.
