During the 2013–14 school year, students in grade ten, eleven, and twelve, as well as adult students, are eligible to take the CAHSEE unless they previously passed the examination. No student who previously passed the CAHSEE is eligible to retake the examination. Students retake only the part(s) of the CAHSEE they have not passed. Only grade twelve and adult students may be tested during the July administration.
Individual student results are returned to school districts approximately seven to eight weeks after the examination materials are received by the contractor for scoring. Therefore, student results from the May 2014 administration of the CAHSEE will arrive in school districts in early July.
School districts that wish to have student results back before spring graduation ceremonies should not select the May 2014 administration option for grade twelve and adult students. School districts will be required to acknowledge this prior to ordering test materials for the May 2014 administration.
Guidelines for Scheduling Grade Ten Students
All students must take the CAHSEE in grade ten and may take it only once in grade ten. All grade ten students must take the CAHSEE during the census administration, unless they are absent or are a retained grade ten student who previously passed the CAHSEE.
Retained grade ten students who previously passed the CAHSEE may not retake the examination. However, an answer document with completed demographic information must be submitted for these students as part of the calculation of adequate yearly progress (AYP).
Districts must offer the grade ten census administration in either February or March.
Districts may provide grade ten students who were absent during the census administration with a make-up opportunity in either the March or May administrations.
No grade ten students are eligible to take the CAHSEE in the July, October, November, or December administrations.
Guidelines for Scheduling Grade Eleven Students
Grade eleven students may be administered the CAHSEE up to two times per school year for the part(s) of the examination they have not previously passed.
Grade eleven students may test in successive administrations. However, it is recommended that school districts allow enough time between administrations to receive score reports back from the previous administration and allow time for remediation prior to the next administration.
Guidelines for Scheduling Grade Twelve Students
Grade twelve students shall have at least three opportunities per school year to take the parts of the CAHSEE they have not previously passed. Grade twelve students may take the section(s) of the CAHSEE not yet passed up to five times during the school year.
Grade twelve students may test in successive administrations. However, it is recommended that school districts allow enough time between administrations to receive score reports back from the previous administration and allow time for remediation prior to the next administration.
