Abstract:

Students work independently on specific targeted needs using the PLATO® software. The Intervention team develops individualized programs for each student using his or her results from previous CAHSEE administrations, PLATO® diagnostic assessments, or practice CAHSEE exams. During the intervention classes the Intervention team reviews all state mathematics standards covered on the CAHSEE. The goal is for students work independently on specific targeted needs using the PLATO® computer lab and teachers assist students as needed. The Intervention team supplements the PLATO® software by using teacher generated and published materials.

Target Audiences:

The Math Tutorial – CAHSEE Intervention program is for students in grades eleven and twelve who still need to pass the math portion of the CAHSEE. A separate twelve to fifteen day intervention program is for at risk grade ten students. Teachers identify the at risk grade ten students prior to their first administration of the CAHSEE to participate in this intervention program.

Typical Instructional Setting:

The Math Tutorial – CAHSEE Intervention program classes are limited to no more than 23 students using a computer lab classroom.

Diagnostic Assessment Used:

PLATO® software has a diagnostic component to it (i.e., FASTRACK Advantage Assessments); however, the Intervention team uses sample or practice CAHSEE tests and actual CAHSEE results to help determine student needs. After the Intervention team establishes the areas of remediation the student must demonstrate mastery of the area by successfully completing post-tests to advance to the next area of need.

Curriculum Used:

PLATO® software aligned to the CAHSEE standards and prerequisite standards required. The Intervention team generates or decides which supplemental materials to use for each student. These teachers work collaboratively to make data driven decisions to improve student achievement.
