For non-special education seniors who do not pass the November 2005 CAHSEE, the Intensive Intervention program will began on January 23, 2006, and ran for eight weeks until the March 2006 CAHSEE administration. Curriculum will be a combination of workbooks and online assessments. Additional computer-assisted instruction will be used for students with skills below sixth grade. A combination of teacher and paid student tutors will be used. Student tutors will be selected from those students who passed the CAHSEE with a scale score of 380 or higher.

Targeted seniors will be placed in this class for one period a day and in lieu of an elective. For special education students, mandatory tutoring is offered both before and after school.

All CAHSEE non-passers

Typical Instructional Setting:

This program will run throughout the school for all periods. The students must have access to a computer with Internet capabilities. Participants will be paired with a one-on-one student tutor under the direction of a teacher hired specifically for this assignment. At comprehensive sites, the number of participants per period will be 5 to 12. At alternative sites, approximately 20 students will participate per period.  

Diagnostic Assessment Used:

Student strand data will be used from all CAHSEE administrations. The Measuring UP e-Path online assessment (Peoples Publishing Group) provides a diagnostic test that further identifies weaknesses at the skill level. The e-Path online assessment will be used for both pre- and post-testing.

  • Measuring UP to the California Content Standards and Success Strategies for the CAHSEE (entry and exit levels) (Peoples Publishing Group)
  • e-Path online assessment
  • For students with skills below sixth grade level, computer-assisted instruction with the A+ Learning System, Skills Bank, and Orchard software is used.
