December 2007 edition of the Standards and Assessment Division Notes for the Physical Fitness Test.
Physical Fitness Test (PFT) Results, Corrections to PFT Results, and Summary Data

The 2007 Physical Fitness Test (PFT) results have been posted to the DataQuest Web site. If there appears to be an error in the data for your school district or school, you need to go to the PFT reporting Web site (Outside Source) to submit your corrected PFT results. Follow the instructions found on this Web site. In addition, contact Maryse Doss at Educational Data Systems (EDS) by e-mail at Maryse@eddata.com. Please include your district’s name, county-school-district (CDS) code, and a short explanation of the problem with your reported 2007 PFT results. Any corrected data must be sent to EDS by January 11, 2008. An updated summary of results for schools, school districts and counties will be posted to DataQuest by January 31, 2008.

The Physical Fitness Test Summary Data is available at the PFT Test Results Site (Outside Source). This site provides downloadable data files containing the 2007 PFT results.

The Physical Fitness Test Student Data download site is available at PFT District Testing Coordinator Login (Outside Source). District PFT Coordinators can use this site to access their own school district student records for the 2007 PFT. Access to this site requires the District PFT Coordinator’s password. Districts can register a new PFT Coordinator by completing the Contact Survey located at PFT reporting Web site (Outside Source). If you are unsure if your District PFT Coordinator information is correct, please send an e-mail to PFT@cde.ca.gov.

Update on the Two-year Exemption from Physical Education Courses

Effective January 1, 2008 (Education Code Section 51241), the two-year exemption from physical education courses is available if the student satisfies (i.e., is in the Healthy Fitness Zone) any five of the six areas of the PFT administered in grade nine. Students in grades ten, eleven, and twelve may participate in the PFT to qualify for the two-year exemption from physical education courses. These students should be administered the test during the February 1 through May 31 PFT administration window. (This window is established by Education Code Section 60800.) School districts do not report the PFT results from students in grades ten, eleven, or twelve to EDS, the current state PFT contractor. Furthermore, there are no other state reporting requirements related to students who participate in the PFT for purposes of eligibility for the two-year exemption.

Please note: participating in the two-year exemption does not prevent a local educational agency (LEA) from implementing any other temporary or permanent exemption authorized by Education Code Section 51241.

For additional information regarding student exemptions from high school physical education courses, refer to the Questions and Answers Regarding the FITNESSGRAM® located on the CDE PFT Web site.
