CELDT Assessment Notes (February 2008)

February 2008 edition of the Standards and Assessment Division Notes for the California English Language Development Test.
Annual Assessment

From January 28 through February 20, 2008, CTB/McGraw-Hill (CTB) provided the Data Review Module (DRM) for districts to correct or update demographic fields for previously identified English learners who took the California English Language Development Test (CELDT) during the Annual Assessment (AA) window (July 1 and October 31, 2007). The DRM allows districts to correct data before the file is submitted to the Language Policy and Leadership Office for calculating the Annual Measurable Achievement Objectives (AMAOs) 1 and 2.

Districts can expect to be able to download their updated General Research Files (GRF) in April. The California Department of Education (CDE) will post AA summary results in May 2008.

Training Opportunities

On April 29 CTB will conduct the first of 20 Pre-Administration Training of Trainers workshops that focus on CELDT scoring and interrater reliability. This training is mandatory for all CELDT District and Site Coordinators who will be training test examiners.

Cognizant that the current budget crisis is having an impact at all levels, CDE understands that it may be difficult for district staff to travel extensively. Therefore, CDE and CTB are exploring the use of web-based training as one means to reduce travel and other costs to attend off-site workshops.

CDE and CTB will be offering a general test administration training using web-based technology for new and current CELDT District and Site Coordinators. CDE and CTB will be presenting four web-based CELDT administration trainings, two on May 30 and two on August 4. CTB will send information to CELDT coordinators shortly.

Additionally, CDE and CTB are looking to the fall and considering web-based options for the Data Analysis and Use Workshops. Stay tuned.

Assistance Packet for School Districts and Schools

The Assistance Packet for School Districts and Schools for the 2007-08 Edition is being finalized and will be posted shortly. CDE plans to post the Assistance Packet for School Districts and Schools for the 2008-09 Edition by August 2008.
