California Education Code Section 60800
Requires:
- Annual PFT administration (FITNESSGRAM®) for all students in grades five, seven, and nine
- School districts to administer the PFT during the months of February, March, April, or May
- Students to participate in the PFT whether or not they are enrolled in a physical education class

Requires that:
- Students be provided with their individual results after completing the PFT
- Schools report the summary results of the PFT in their annual School Accountability Report Card (SARC)

General Overview
- PFT is not directly funded through state apportionments.
- Districts are not provided with PFT test administration materials or PFT training.
- Educational Data Systems, Inc. (EDS) is the current state PFT contractor. EDS collects the annual PFT data from the districts via a Web site.

- Description and suggestions of all of the components of the PFT
- Parent and guardian guides regarding the PFT and family fitness, and the PFT and the FITNESSGRAM®

- Web site resources and slide presentation
- Revised overview packet available in January 2008 as downloadable PDF files at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/pf/

Spring 2008 Preparation Manual for Testing and Reporting
- Includes instructions for preparing for the 2008 PFT administration and reporting districts results by the June 30, 2008 deadline
- Provides options and suggestions for collecting and reporting the PFT data
- Has school and student file layouts which must be used to upload your files
- Contains samples of downloadable data collection forms
- Will be available in December 2007 at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/pf/ and a copy will be mailed to each district

Submit PFT Data Electronically to PFT Contractor
Reporting options:
- Internet data entry
- Data file upload (plain text ASCII, Excel, or Access formats)
- Standard format files or FITNESSGRAM® software on a diskette or CD-ROM sent through regular mail
- Note that FITNESSGRAM® software will be updated shortly via release 8.3 to accommodate California's ethnicity codes
- Contract with outside vendor
- Note: DO NOT submit handwritten materials or e-mail the student PFT results

2007 PFT Results
Results will be available at the end of November 2007:
- 2007 PFT Summary Files via EDS (downloadable data files)
- PFT Summary Reports via DataQuest (fixed reports of results)

- Each of the six fitness areas

- Obtain the signature of the school district superintendent or charter school administrator
- Fax the completed survey to Educational Data Systems at 408-776-7696

The Contact Survey is used to:
- Generate a password that will allow the District PFT Coordinator to submit the annual PFT student results
- Add the District PFT Coordinator to a Listserv used for distribution of updates about the PFT
