The California Department of Education (CDE) Smarter Balanced update is a biweekly e-mail that reports on current and upcoming Smarter Balanced development activities. To join the CDE Smarter Balanced electronic mailing list, send a blank e-mail to: subscribe-sbac@mlist.cde.ca.gov.

Spring 2013 Pilot Test Frequently Asked Questions

Smarter Balanced has released a document to address frequently asked questions (FAQs) regarding the spring 2013 pilot test. A link to this document is posted on the CDE Smarter Balanced pilot test Web page through the link to “Spring 2013 Pilot Test.” The pilot test Web page also provides a search feature to display schools, by county and district, selected for the scientific component of the pilot test and a hyperlink to the online survey schools can complete to volunteer to participate in the volunteer component of the pilot test.

Upcoming Deadline for Feedback on Draft Achievement Level Descriptors

The public comment period for the Smarter Balanced draft achievement level descriptors (ALDs) ends January 15, 2013. The draft ALDs and online survey for providing feedback are available on the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium’s Web site External link opens in new window or tab.. Smarter Balanced hosted a public Webinar on December 17 to provide an overview of achievement level descriptors and instructions for submitting feedback. A recording of this Webinar will be posted on the Smarter Balanced Web site the week of January 7. Anyone reviewing and providing feedback on the draft ALDs is encouraged to view this presentation.
