Pilot Test Update
Great job, California schools! Approximately 1,400 California schools have confirmed their upcoming participation in the Smarter Balanced scientific pilot test. Participating schools that have questions about administering the scientific pilot test should contact the American Institutes for Research help desk by phone at 866-815-7246 or by e-email at smarterbalancedhelpdesk@air.org.
Wireless Generation Selected for Formative Assessment Contract
Smarter Balanced has selected Wireless Generation to design and implement the formative assessment practices and professional learning component of the Smarter Balanced Assessment System. The formative assessment component will consist of (1) a digital library technology application; (2) Smarter Balanced-developed classroom instruction and professional learning resources and an inventory of currently available resources; and (3) the recruitment of state leadership teams and about 100 educators per member state to create a state network of educators that will provide input on the digital library and assessment system usability.
Assembly Bill 484 Introduced
On February 19, 2013, Assembly Bill 484 (Bonilla) was introduced, proposing to suspend portions of the Standardized Testing and Reporting Program assessments for the 2013–14 school year. This suspension was one of the recommendations provided to the State Legislature by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson regarding the reauthorization of the statewide student assessment system.
