California Educator Involvement in Smarter Balanced Item Development Activities
Thank you, California educators! The California Department of Education received applications from over 600 California educators to be involved in upcoming Smarter Balanced item development activities. Through the end of this year, Smarter Balanced will conduct a number of pilot and field test item development activities. California was permitted to nominate 80 highly-qualified California educators for these activities.
Assembly Bill 484 Legislative Activity
On June 26, 2013, Assembly Bill (AB) 484 was passed by the Senate Education Committee. It is expected to be reviewed by the Senate Appropriations Committee in August. For information on specific bill language or to track the status of AB 484

Assembly Bill (AB) 484 proposes the establishment of the California Measurement of Academic Performance and Progress for the 21st Century (CalMAPP21), which would succeed the existing Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program.
