Assembly Bill 484 Legislative Activity
On September 4, 2013, Assembly Bill (AB) 484 was amended to call for the suspension of most of the state’s Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program tests beginning with the 2013-14 school year. This suspension would allow California to maximize the participation of its schools in the spring 2014 Smarter Balanced Field Test and allow local educational agencies to focus fully on the transition to the Common Core State Standards. The newly amended version of AB 484 can be accessed online at the California Legislative Information Web site .
AB 484 proposes the establishment of a new assessment system for the State of California, the Measurement of Academic Performance and Progress (MAPP). By September 13, AB 484 is expected to be voted on by the Senate and the Assembly. If passed by both houses of the Legislature, the bill will proceed to the Governor who will have 30 days to sign the bill.
