Waivers for SFAs in Humboldt County

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Main Web Page

The California Department of Education (CDE) Nutrition Services Division (NSD) has received authority from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to waive certain School Nutrition Programs (SNP) requirements for Humboldt county school food authorities (SFA) in response to the 6.4 magnitude earthquake.

Through January 31, 2023, the following SNP requirements are waived for Humboldt County SFAs if needed:

  • SNP meals must be served in a congregate setting and consumed by participants on site
  • Meal time parameters for school lunch and breakfast
  • Senior high schools must participate in Offer versus Serve

These flexibilities may be utilized without further approval from the CDE.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved the CDE to offer meal pattern flexibilities to SFAs on a case-by-case basis. If an SFA requires meal pattern flexibilities they may submit a meal pattern waiver request using the CDE NSD Meal Pattern Waiver Request Form web page External link opens in new window or tab. .

Reimbursement Claims Submission Flexibility

The USDA can authorize the CDE to allow school food authorities, institutions, and sponsors to submit claims beyond the 60-day submission requirement. Claims submitted after 60 days, as a result of a disaster, are not subject to the one-time exception for late submissions. For more information on late claim submission due to disasters, refer to the USDA Policy Memoranda SP 46-2014, CACFP 12-2014, SFSP 18-2014 web document at USDA Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) FNS Disaster Assistance web page External link opens in new window or tab..
