New Look for Testing Web Pages
You spoke—and we listened. The California Department of Education (CDE) Testing web pages have been revamped to better organize and present the many assessment resources we have for you. Each program page is organized into the following categories:
- Program Overview
- Resources and Communication Materials
- Test Administration
- Scores and Results Reporting
- Laws, Regulations, and Requirements
- Technical documents
We also have created something new: “Resources for Communicating with Parents” web pages to help parents and guardians find information about the assessments and their child’s results. Check out the look and feel of our new web pages, revised and enhanced for your ease of use!
For Kids, By Kids Video Contest: Voting Is Open
Who better to communicate with students about testing than the students themselves? No one! That is why, last spring, the CDE launched the video contest “For Kids, By Kids.” During the contest, teams from schools across the state were challenged to come up with creative and engaging ways to encourage students to “do their best on the test.” Following guidelines set by the CDE, 28 teams submitted entries. Those entries have been narrowed down to six, and now we want your opinion! Which video do you like best? Visit the Video Contest Voting web page to view the top six and cast your vote! Voting closes next month, on October 30.
2018–19 CAASPP Interim Assessment User Guide Now Available
The CAASPP 2018–19 Interim Assessment (IA) User Guide (PDF) is now available. Located on the IA Administration Resources web page of the CAASPP Portal, the guide provides instructions for local educational agency (LEA) staff using the IA online systems, including:
- IA Viewing System
- IA Test Delivery System
- IA Hand Scoring System
- IA Reporting System
A “What’s New” section has been added to the beginning of the guide as well as relevant sections throughout that highlight key changes from last year’s version.
Embedded in Chapter 5 are links to two resources from Smarter Balanced—the Reporting System User Guide, which provides instructions for navigating the IA Reporting System, and the IAs Interpretive Guide, which provides guidance on interpreting student test scores from Interim Assessment Blocks and Interim Comprehensive Assessments.
Updated High School Science Test Administration Resource––Now Available!
A revised resource with a new name, “Science Test Administration for High School Students,” (PDF) is now available to assist LEAs in determining whom to test in high school. This flyer presents information for planning the administration of the high school California Science Test or the California Alternate Assessment for Science, which is designed for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities. The flyer clearly identifies the high school grades in which to test students (i.e., in grade ten, eleven, or twelve) and addresses the flexibility LEAs have in determining when to test their grade ten or grade eleven students.
Please share this email with any educators in your local educational agency who would be interested in or benefit from this information.
